Hi everyone. Not much has been going on lately, things have been pretty low key since after the holidays. So Tonya doesn't really have a lot of new pictures to share, as I haven't really been doing anything interesting. But Tonya thought it was about time for a new post anyway. But she should be posting a new post pretty soon with all sorts of pictures, because Tonya is getting a new camera this weekend so she will probably go crazy taking pictures of me.
Oh, and thank you to Lexi and Jasper the Great Danes for giving me the Liebster Blog Award! I have put a picture of it on the side of the blog with my other two awards.

Christmas presents

I hope everyone has had a good holiday season! I know I have! I wanted to look my very best for christmas, so I got a haircut before christmas and they even put on a christmas tree bandana on me! These bandanas usually never last very long because I usually notice that there is this big monster around my neck pretty quick after it gets put on me. And once I know it's there, I won't leave it alone untill I get it off and chew it up! But this time I tried to be a good boy (I didn't want to be naughty so close to christmas!) and I left it alone until the day after christmas, but then I had had enough, and saw to it that it came off!
Tonya says I must have been an extra good boy this year because I got a lot of presents in my stocking this year! I was so excited when it was my turn to see my presents! Tonya doesn't wrap them though, because I have just never gotten the hang of unwrapping presents, I just get really frustrated that there is wrapping paper in the way of my gift that people expect me to get off. I mean how am I supposed to do that? So I just pick my presents out of my stocking one by one, and play with all of them!

This year I got a new dinosaur chew toy that I named Rex, a very colorful blanket that I can carry with me around the house (so I no longer feel the need to steal towels from around the house to carry with me), I also got a big packet of hard treats that Tonya says will clean my teeth for me when I chew on them. So I think I got some pretty good presents this year!

In Memory of Wendy

In an very sad turn of events, Sammy's friend Wendy, who I posted a picture of in my last post for wordless wesneday, has passed away. She was about 8 years old, so she lived a very full, and happy life. There was nothing she liked more than to run around with her owner, ( who has been a friend of mine for a long time) playing and having fun with us kids. Wendy was the first dog Sammy ever met beside his mom and dad (he was the only pup in the litter), and they had been great friends ever since. I hope everyone will keep Wendy and her owner in their thoughts, as he and his family will be taking this very hard, as Wendy was truly apart of the family.

Unforunatley, this is the only picture I have of Wendy, and even though I posted it last week, (although when I did last week's post I had no idea I would soon be writing this post) I would like to post it again, so everyone can see how beautiful of a dog she was:

First of all, I want to say I am sorry that I have not really posted in a while, or visited your blogs; school just started up again, so Tonya has been focuse on kind of getting back into the swing of things, and hasn't really had time to help me with my blog. But I will try to visit all of your blogs as soon as possible.

Anyway, I haven't really been up to much, I did go to the dog park, but it was too dark to take pictures, so Tonya, said she will try and get some next time we go. Other than that, I have just been doing what cavaliers do best, sleeping! I always like to either sleep on the couch in the living room, so I can kind of see everything that is going on, or I like to set up camp at the front door. That way I can sleep in the sun, and watch for any intruders that might come my way! Tonya got some pictures of me sleeping in the doorway, (I say I wasn't really sleeping, I was just resting my eyes, I was still ready to pounce on any strangers!):

I went to the dog park this weekend, but Tonya forgot her camera! I did have a lot of fun though, I met lots of new doggies. There was a nice dalmation that followed me around the park almost the whole time I was there! And there was a boxer puppy that was really nice too. I always like going to the dog park, but I havent been able to go in a while because it has been really hot lately. (It has been at least 100 degress (F) every day for the past 2 or 3 weeks!) And even when I went this weekend we had to wait till about 8 pm, when it had cooled down to about 70 or 80 degrees. It was still fun though, and I can't wait untill I go again!

My family is back from Colorado! And I'm back from doggy daycare. I had a lot of fun, and I even got my own report card, which said during group play I mostly observed the other dogs playing, and was more interested in being petted by the workers. It even said I would start howling a lot, and then all of the other dogs would start howling! Hee hee! I was kind of a trouble make I guess! My family had a lot of fun too, here some of the mountains they saw:

Vacation

My humans are going on vacation the week! They are going to go to Colorado, and have lots of fun. But guess what? I don't get to go with them! They are just going to go visit all of these cool places without me, for a whole week! But it does mean that I get to spend the week at my doggy daycare place, which I always have loads of fun at! (Although I would much rather be with my humans) I get to meet new doggies and play almost all day, plus I gets lots of cuddles and attention because all of the people there think I am so cute! So, anyway, since I will be gone this week I won't be able to visit your blogs, but don't worry, I will check them when I get back.

My New Summer Haircut!

I got a new summer haircut last weekend! Tonya likes it, although at first it seemed way to short. See, the groomer I usually go to retired, so I went to a new one this time, and she went a little too crazy with the cutters! She didn't even leave an inch of hair on my back, it's as short as a Beagle's! (The only thing she didn't cut was my ears and my tail) But Tonya said she will just have to get used to it. Here are some pictures of it, although it's kinda hard to see how really short it is, cause I wouldn't stand still for a proper pictures.

So I went to the groomers on Saturday, (even though I didn't think I needed to go to that scary place) and guess what they did? They cut my hair short! Nobody even warned me it was time for my summer haircut! I mean, I didn't have anytime to prepare!

Luckily (with my direction) my groomer was able to do a pretty good job, and I think I look pretty cool! I even got a red bandana to add to my new style!

Hey guys, so I haven't been able to post a blog all week because something really bad happened to the computer machine that Tonya helps me write my blog on: it caught on fire! Tonya was surfing the web and all of a sudden a blue screen came up on the computer, this has happened before and all you have to do is restart the computer. So Tonya pushed the off button, and then smoke started coming out of the computer! (Which Tonya didn't even know could happen!) She quickly unplugged the computer before flames started to appear (although she thinks the inside of the computer was probably on fire, and that was why the outside was smoking). Now, I was there when it happened, and it was scary, the computer started to make a loud buzzing sound before the smoke came out, and thats when I ran out of the room!

So, needless to say, our computer is currently unable to be used. And all of my pictures were on that computer (don't worry, Tonya has a back up disk that has my photos on it as well, so they weren't all lost), so I can't post any new pictures right now. (Which stinks, because I just had a play date with my cavalier friends, Rusty, and Tonya was looking forward to posting those pictures)

Since the only pictures Tonya can post right now are ones she can get through the internet, today's post is about celebrities who own cavaliers. Sorry I haven't posted a proper blog lately, there hasn't really been that much going on. During the winter months I'm usually cooped up inside, only going out to go to the bathroom, and the occasional walk when it is not too cold outside. The only time I've been outside of my neighborhood this week is to go to the groomers! (Which, believe me, was not my first choice of where I wanted to go on my first real outing since the beginning of February!) Anyway, while being forced to stay inside Tonya gave me one of my favorite things to play with: a cardboard box! I love tossing it from side to side, and dragging it all around the house! Sorry I havent blogged in a while, Tonya has been really busy with that the called high school that she goes to every day, she has had lots of homework because of so many snow days that she has had these past few weeks. And speaking of snow days, as you may have guessed, it has been snowing here, a lot! It got so high that I couldn't even go outside to do my buisness properly. Tonya said that at one point last week every state in the U.S. was covered with snow (except of course for Hawaii ;)) Anyway, since I have been stuck in the house for a while, I haven't really been doing much, but here are some pictures of what I have been doing this past month.

Happy Holidays everyone!
I had a really fun Christmas, I got presents and everything! I knew it was Christmas time about a week before Christmas, because my human mom put my stocking over the fire place, along with my two human pups', and we put the Christmas tree up, which I always love, because there is a great spot to sleep right underneath the branches. For Christmas I got a new bone to chew (which Tonya really likes because it is supposed to clean my teeth and freshen my breath), a new rope toy that I can play tug-o'-war with, and a big bag full of yummy treats! (The only bad thing about that is that Tonya says I'm not aloud to eat all of the treats at once.)

My Christmas was really fun, and I hope everyone's holidays were just as amazing as mine!

Well, to start with, I am currently out of the doggie hospital, and I am going to make nice recovery.

About a week ago Tonya noticed whenever she took me out to go potty, I would have a hard time relieving myself, and I would even whine in pain when I went poo. She also noticed that was sliding my butt on the ground more than usual. Well, about 3 days ago I started getting really sick, and I would not eat, or drink, all I would do all day was sleep on the floor, which is odd for me because when I usually sleep during the day I like to curl on the couch. Tonya saw how bad I was feeling, and finally got the nerve to lift up my tail and examine my bum (eww!). What she found was pretty bad! There was a big pink bump right on my bum, that my tail had been hiding. Tonya was very worried, but before we went to the vet, she looked up my systems online, and found out what the problem was. My anal glands, which are tiny sacs near my bum that help release waste, were inflated! She read that this is a very serious thing, and that, if they were not taken of, they could burst! About 10 percent of doggies have to deal with issues from their anal glands, because for some of us, they do not empty themselves out naturally, so they get bigger, and bigger, untill they can't hold anymore waste. The worst part about this kind of issue is that if it is not taken care of properly, and quickly, a dog can get an infection on his bum, and get very sick! After figuring out what was wrong, Tonya and my mom rushed to the doggie hospital and they took my temperature, and they found out I also had a fever. My doctor said I haid to go get surgery right away, so Tonya and mom left for the day, so I could have my surgery. The surgery went really will, and I feel alot better, but the bad thing is that now I have to go to the vet reguarly about once every 2 to 3 months now to get my bum cleaned out, so that this doesn't happen again.

Well anyway, Tonya is just glad I am ok, and I have been home since Wednesday night, resting, and on my way to a full recovery.

Facts About My Breed

Not many people know much about cavaliers, so here are some facts about Cavalier King Charles Spaniels:

We were originally used as hunting dogs in the day time, and then at night we were lap dogs. We became (and still are) one of the most popular dog breeds in Great Britain when King Charles II made the breed popular.

We have four coat types: Blenheim (red/brown and white), Tricolor (black, white, and brown), Black and Tan, and Ruby.

Our breed nickname is "The Comforter Spaniel" because of our laid back temperament and love for sleeping on people's laps. We are also called Cavaliers or Cavs for short.

We are toy breed dogs and are usually 15 to 20 pounds, and about 12 to 14 inches tall (although we act like we are much bigger!) and we are the biggest dog breed in the toy breed group.

We are active, and very affectionate dogs that thrive on human attention. We are very good with children and other animals, but are sometimes cautious around strange people or dogs. Cavaliers are willing to please, but can also be independent at times.

Our most famous traits are our big, brown eyes, our red/brown eyebrows, and our big, tail that opens up like a fan.

First off, Tonya would just like to say that she is really sorry that she has not helped me post a blog in a while.

Now, to Halloween! I had a really fun time! I got to meet all of these strange human pups dressed up in silly costumes. And I got to help give them candy. But the best part was definitley dressing up in a costume for myself! Tonya wanted to pick something that was festive, but not to over the top (she doesn't really like the idea of putting clothes on dogs, except for Halloween of course). So we went to the pet store and picked out the perfect oufit: I was a vampire dog!! I got to wear a cape that made me look like a real vampire!

Dogtober Fest!

It's almost that time of year again! The Dogtober Fest is coming! It's where all sorts of dogs from around the area come together in a big place outdoors. And there are all sorts of games for us doggies to play, like sack racing (your human is in the sack, and you are running beside them), and bobbing for biscuits (you try and get dog biscuits out of a water bowl!) there are also frisbee, agility, herding and swimming competitions. On top of the games, there are all kinds of animal shelters that bring dogs there to get adopted. Now, alot of dogs come to the Dogtober Fest, and some of them go all out with the Halloween spirit! Since I didn't have time to post a wordless wednesday, and I have already written something on this post, I decided to post an almost-wordless thursday.

(This is actually my bed, it is my safe place where no one can bother me, and I like it alot, because it has an open top and a door flap, but mom never closes it so I don't feel caged in.) (I sleep in it everynight, it is in the kitchen, and sometimes I even go in it during the day, but I usually prefer the couch during the day.)

Hi everyone! Sorry I havent posted in a little while, school has started up again so Tonya hasn't had very much time to help me write a blog. This also means that I haven't been getting as much attention as usual this past week. (how can they resist my cute, "I'm the best dog in the world" face?!) They did, however have time to take me to the dog park this weekend! We went to the dog park and met up with Tonya's friend's dog, named Maybell. Maybell is a a rottweiler, labrador mix; we had only met each other one other time, when we were both puppies, but we still had lots of fun together! Guess what else?! I saw two, full grown, Great Danes, just like my blog friend Honey the Great Dane! Tonya had only seen a Great Dane in real life once before, a couple of years ago; and I, myself had never seen one before. They were soooo big!! One was a brindle Dane (which is like a tiger stripe pattern), and the other one was a mantle dane. (black with a white tummy) Tonya was so excited! Ever since she was little girl she has wanted a Great Dane! (thank goodness mom doesn't really like big dogs, or else they would not have gotten me!) They were very well behaved, and even though they were very gentle with me, I was still really scared of them. (I mean, the top of my head barely came up to their knees!!!) Anyway, Tonya talked to the owners about them for a while, and when they left to continue their walk, Tonya couldn't stop talking about. Now, I don't see the big, I mean they were definitaley not as cute as me, right?! Oh, and Tonya noticed that both of the owners had big gloves on that Tonya said they used to wipe off the dog's drool! (Glad I don't have that problem!) Anyway, I had a really fun time at the dog park, but unfortunately, Tonya forgot to bring her camera! So she doesn't have any pictures of me at the dog park, and, plus, the computer with all of Tonya's pictures on it ( we have 2 computers, and only one has pictures on it) isn't working, so Tonya is REALLY sorry that there are no pictures to this post, but she says she will post some pictures of me as soon as the computer is fixed.

I haven't been doing much in the past few days, it has been raining alot, so Tonya says I have to stay indoors except for my afternoon walk and potty breaks. I hate it when it rains, because it makes the grass all wet, and then my feet and legs get soaked when I go outside, which means I will be all wet and cold until I eventually dry off. I also haven't been getting much attention inside the house (its hard to believe how they can resist my cute puppy dog face!). Mom and dad have been busy with work and Tonya and my other human pup have been getting ready to go back to high school, because their summer vacation is almost over. I do have some exciting news though! I am going to start clicker training! Tonya read about how benefical clicker training is, so now she says she is going to start me on clicker training! I am very excited! Now, I already know basic commands such as sit, lay down, shake, come, and stay, but Tonya has not been keeping up with my training as much as she would like. So now she is going to teach me lots of fun, new tricks (which means more treats for me!)

Sorry I have not posted a blog in a while, Tonya has been very busy getting ready for school, because in a couple of weeks she has to go back to this place called high school, just like she did last year. And once school starts it means I will be home alone most of the day, but I don't mind all at that much, because I mostly sleep all day, and when I am not sleeping, I play with my toys (I am very good at playing with my toys by myself, I always sit in the living room and bark and run every time I squeak my squeaky ball, and I can do this for a long time and still have fun with it.) Since Tonya and everyone else have been so busy this past week, the only fun things I have really been doing are going on my daily walks and playing soccer with someone, whenever they get a chance. Anyway, here are some pictures of what I have been doing:This one is before I got my summer haircut. (Don't I look so scruffy?)

Home again!

I'm home! My humans came and got me from my daycare this morning! They were gone for a whole week because they went on vacation to a state called California. I had fun at daycare, and I made a lot of new friends! Here are some pictures of where I stayed:I got to play all day while I was there, except for a breakfast, nap, and lunch break each day, before it was time for all of us doggies to go to bed. I even got a report card that told my humans how I did while they were gone, and my very own ID card.My report card said that I always ate my meals, I was mostly an observer when it came to group play time, I mostly enjoyed playing with the employees, as opposed to the other dogs, and I was always excited to see my caretaker in the morning when it was time to go to the play area!

Anyway, I am really glad to be back home with my family, and I am relieved that all of the chaos of going on vacation is over!

My stay at doggy daycare starts tomorrow, so this will be my last post for about a week. I am excited to go to doggy daycare, but at the same time, I am not pleased that my humans will be going on vacation without me. I always have fun at daycare, but I also always miss my humans alot. Tonya is going to take pictures of my daycare, and help me post them when we get back. Anyway, talk to you soon!

My Mom and Dad

I was reading an old post on Honey the Great Dane's website a couple of days ago, and I read one that talked about Honey's parents, and I have decided to do a blog about my parents too!

My mom's name is Lizzie, and she is a a tan and white (Blenheim) Cavalier. She was born in Ireland, but she came to Missouri when she was a puppy. She is a very pretty dog, and she was a great mother!. When I was born the only other puppy in my litter died at birth, so my mom raised me as an only child (this is partly why I am still pretty timid around rowdy, hyper, dogs. )

My dad's name is Sailor, and he is a tricolor Cavalier, just like me. Tonya says I look just like my dad. He was born in England, but he also came to my breeders when he was a puppy. My dad was a show dog, although he still had time to spend with my mom (and have me!) When my breeders introduced my mom and dad they hit it off right away. My dad charmed my mom, and they soon became a couple. They had a couple of litters before I came along, but when I came I was as cute as could be!

When I was born my breeders were at first not going to put me up for adoption, they were going to use me as a stud dog, to perform in dog shows, and have puppies with their other girl dogs. But they put my puppy photo up on their website, anyway. That's when my human mom saw a picture of me when she was surfing the web, looking for Cavalier breeders. She fell in love with me right away! And when she told the rest of the family, they agreed I was the dog for them! After exchanging several emails with my breeder, the deal was done, and I was due to start my new life, in my new home when I reached 8 weeks old.

Vacation

My humans are going on vacation! And the worst part is, they are not taking me with them! Every summer my humans go on vacation for a couple of days, and each time, they drop me off at doggy daycare. Now, I like it at my daycare, and I always get good reviews from the daycare employees, but I also get a little nervous for the first couple of days. I mean, how do I know if my humans are coming back for me or not?!?! At my daycare they have a little swimming pool for dogs, a shaded outside area for us doggies to play in, a playset for us inside, and our own little rooms, that are next to each other. I am able to play all day, with a nap and dinner break in between play time. And when it is time for us doggies to go to bed we can lay down on our very own cots (or any bed that our humans brought with us.) Now this is fun and all, but it is also very stressful to be away from my family for a week, and I am usually a bit hesitant about playing with the other dogs there (some of them are really big and hyper, and as a small, sometimes timid, dog, I don't know how do deal with it.) My humans always bring my favorite toys for me to play with, and that makes me feel better when we are in our rooms at night, and before breakfast. But, unlike most doggies, I never hold a grudge agaisnt my humans for leaving me to have fun (without me), I am just really happy and excited when they come and pick me up. (But this doesn't mean that I am ok with them going to far off places to have fun adventures, while leaving me behind!) I will just be glad when it is all over, and life goes back to normal.

Longing for sleep

Since it is the summer time my human pups have not had to go to school for a while, and I have had to share the house with them all day, every day! This means I have gotten very little sleep since school let out. But this week my human pups are going to help with something called Vacation Bible School. This means I will have half of the day to myself, all week! I am looking forward to this, although Tonya says I am too lazy anyway. (I disagree, I need all of the beauty sleep I can get, so I can always look my best!)

Hi there! My name is Sammy and I am a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and my human pup (my kid), Tonya, has decided to start a blog for me. I am four years old and about 20 lbs. Tonya says I am a very spunky little guy, and I love to play; but, I am just as happy sitting down on your lap and sleeping, or watching tv with you! My favorite game is soccer, I love to chase after the ball, and I am a great goalie! In this blog Tonya hopes to entertain everyone with my antics, and share the fun moments that she is able to have with me. I hope you will enjoy this blog!
